How to get someone's YouTube channel banned, and what a YouTube ban service can really file

A channel that copies, doxxes, impersonates or threatens you can be taken down, but only through the process YouTube built for that harm. This page matches each case to its form, counts the strikes, and sets video removals against channel terminations in YouTube's own EU filings.

To get someone's YouTube channel banned, report the specific videos that break a rule, under the matching policy, with timestamps. Each confirmed violation adds a strike, and three strikes in 90 days terminate the channel. Impersonation and severe abuse can end it at once. Report volume changes nothing.

How do you get someone's YouTube channel banned?

Match what the channel did to the one YouTube process built for it, file once with evidence, and let the strike system do the rest. That is the honest answer to how to get someone's youtube channel banned, and it is the same answer whether you phrase it as how to get someone banned on youtube or how to get a youtube channel taken down. YouTube does not end channels because many people dislike them. It ends them when a reviewed video breaks a rule, when the strikes pile up, or when the channel itself is an impersonation.

So start from what you can prove, not from how angry you are. Reposts of your videos make a copyright case. Filming you outside your home is a privacy case. Your name and photo on someone else's channel is impersonation, and posted threats fall under the Community Guidelines. Each of those has its own form, its own reviewer and its own outcome, and only some of them can lead to channel removal. The table further down lays them side by side.

Many searchers type how to get someones youtube channel banned, without the apostrophe, and land on sellers promising a report army. We tested that idea on the bots that flood YouTube with flags and on spam report bots compared with one well-written report: volume did nothing that a single accurate report would not have done.

How many strikes to terminate a YouTube channel?

Three. That is the short answer to how many strikes to terminate a youtube channel: three Community Guidelines strikes inside the same 90-day window, or three active copyright strikes. The two ladders are separate, so two guideline strikes and one copyright strike do not add up to a ban. Here is how each one climbs:

How YouTube counts Community Guidelines and copyright strikes against a channel
StepCommunity GuidelinesCopyright
First confirmed violationUsually a one-time warning; it can expire after a policy training and 90 clean daysA copyright strike, no warning first
Strike 1One-week freeze on uploads, live streams and postsCopyright School to complete; monetisation may be affected
Strike 2 within 90 daysTwo-week freezeStill active; each strike expires 90 days after it was issued if Copyright School is done
Strike 3 within 90 daysChannel terminatedChannel terminated, along with linked channels
No ladder at allSevere abuse in one case, or a channel dedicated to breaking the rulesNot applicable; copyright always goes through strikes

Strikes expire 90 days after they are issued, so a channel that breaks the rules slowly can survive for years. That is why a single report about one old video rarely ends anything: the strike it produces may expire before the next one lands. The exception is severe abuse. YouTube can terminate after one violation for things like child safety breaches, credible violent threats or a channel built only to spam, scam or impersonate. Our breakdown of the three ladders to a YouTube termination goes deeper on the severe route.

Which YouTube form fits what the channel did?

The one that matches your evidence. Reports filed under the wrong policy are the most common reason a valid complaint goes nowhere: a privacy case sent through the general report menu is reviewed against the Community Guidelines, and it may pass them. Pick the row that fits:

What the channel did, the form that fits it, and what YouTube can remove
What you can showWhere to fileWhat comes downCan it end the channel?
A video or Short that breaks a Community Guideline (hate, harassment, violence, scams, sexual content)Report button on the video, Short, comment or channel About pageThe video, plus a warning or strike on the channelYes, at three strikes in 90 days or one severe case
Your own video, music or footage uploaded without permissionCopyright removal webform in YouTube StudioThe video, plus a copyright strikeYes, at three active copyright strikes
Your face, full name, address or phone number shown without consentPrivacy complaint formThe video or the part that identifies you, after the uploader gets 48 hours to fix itRarely; privacy removals are not strikes
A channel that copies your name, photo or brand to pass as youImpersonation report from the channel page or the impersonation webformThe whole channelYes, directly
Defamation, a court order or another local law breachGoogle's legal removal request formThe video, often only in the country where the law appliesNot by itself

Two rules apply to every row. File as the person affected, because privacy, impersonation and copyright forms only accept the rights holder or their agent. And file once per item. Duplicate reports from friends join the same review queue; they do not jump it.

Is YouTube video removal easier than channel removal?

By a very wide margin. Every moderation decision YouTube makes on users in the EU is filed with the public DSA Transparency Database, so the gap can be counted. We pulled YouTube's filings for 1 to 22 October 2026 on 24 October:

  • 3,029,165 decisions removed a piece of content, such as a video, Short or comment.
  • 11,955 decisions terminated an account outright, about one for every 253 content removals.
  • Of those terminations, 250 were filed as made without automation, and 250 began with a formal legal notice under Article 16 of the DSA.

The categories tell the same story. Content removals filed as scams and fraud reached 741,561, protection of minors 62,990, intellectual property 22,024, violence 4,689 and illegal or harmful speech 1,075. Channel terminations filed under those same labels were tiny: 194 for illegal or harmful speech, 42 for scams and none for intellectual property, minors or violence. Almost every termination is filed under YouTube's general terms, which is where strike-based and dedicated-channel bans sit. These are EU filings only, and late filings can still arrive for the last days of the window, so read them as proportions, not a global total.

The lesson for anyone after youtube channel removal: aim at the video first. A single youtube video removal is the step that creates a strike, and strikes are what end channels. That is also why our look at who can actually remove a Reddit post and the guide to taking down a single Instagram post start with the item, not the account.

What does a YouTube ban service actually do?

A real youtube ban service is a paid filing desk, not a ban button. It reads the channel, finds the videos that break a written rule or the law, picks the right form, writes the report with timestamps and evidence, and files it once in your name or as your authorised agent. A youtube channel ban service that promises a guaranteed termination on any channel, a date for the ban, or "hundreds of accounts" reporting at once is selling a story; we priced those offers in the TikTok ban seller price list and our review of paid Instagram ban sellers, and the YouTube market is the same.

A youtube takedown service should be able to tell you, before you pay, which of the five routes above applies and what result it can realistically reach. If the answer is "none", the honest reply is that nothing should be filed. Sellers that ask for your login, take crypto only, or will not say which policy they are reporting under are the ones to walk away from. The same pattern runs through how rule-breaking Telegram channels really come down and the tiers WhatsApp ban sellers charge for.

How do you take down a YouTube account that targets you?

Treat it as your own case, with your own evidence, because that is the strongest standing YouTube recognises. If you are wondering how to take down a youtube account that harasses, doxxes or impersonates you, work in this order:

  1. Save the proof first: channel URL, video URLs, timestamps, screenshots of comments and the channel's About page. Channels that sense trouble delete and re-upload.
  2. File the privacy complaint for anything that shows your face, name, address or number. The uploader gets 48 hours, then YouTube reviews it.
  3. File the impersonation report if the channel uses your name, photo or brand. That one can remove the whole channel at once.
  4. Report each harassing video under the harassment and cyberbullying policy, one report per video, naming the policy and the timestamp.
  5. For threats, keep the evidence and go to the police as well. YouTube's legal form and a court order carry weight the report button does not.

Harassers rarely stay on one platform. If the same person is also messaging you through a fake Instagram support account, check which Instagram support email addresses are real and where to write instead before replying to anything that asks for your login. On YouTube itself, keep a log of every report number, so a later strike or appeal can point back to your earlier filings.

Do the same rules apply on other platforms?

The shape is the same everywhere: the item first, the account second, and evidence over volume. Instagram's side is set out in the report bots sold for Instagram, paid offers to mass report an Instagram account, how spam report bots for Instagram fare, which Instagram spam button to use for each case, what Instagram tells the person you reported and how to tell an Instagram ban wave from a ban that was about you. Facebook shares Meta's systems, as what happens when a Facebook profile, Page or group is mass reported, how Meta treats report floods from a tool and what a paid Facebook ban service charges for, next to the free route show.

On TikTok, see our teardown of TikTok mass report bots and the test of TikTok report bots on spam, LIVE and comments. X is covered in every route to report a single post on X, what X counts when a report bot fires and what buyers of mass reports on X end up with. For messaging apps, read what a single Telegram report triggers, the steps to report a whole Telegram group, why WhatsApp report bots send empty reports and why Snap weighs evidence over report volume.

What should you collect before you report a YouTube channel?

Enough that a reviewer who has never heard of you can confirm the violation in a minute. Reviewers see your report, the video and the policy you chose; they do not see your history with the uploader. A strong file has:

  • Exact URLs for each video, Short or comment, not just the channel link.
  • Timestamps for the moment the rule is broken, written as minutes and seconds.
  • The policy name as YouTube writes it, such as harassment and cyberbullying or impersonation.
  • Proof of ownership for copyright: the original upload, the file's creation date or a licence.
  • Proof of identity for privacy and impersonation: YouTube asks for it, and it settles who is affected.

With that in hand, one report is usually enough to start the strike clock. Without it, a hundred reports usually are not.

Questions on this matter

How many strikes does it take to terminate a YouTube channel?
Three Community Guidelines strikes within 90 days, or three active copyright strikes. The two counts are separate. A single severe violation, or a channel dedicated to breaking the rules, can be terminated without any strikes.
Can you get a YouTube channel banned by mass reporting it?
Not by volume. Each report sends the flagged item to review, and a channel is only terminated when reviewed videos break the rules often enough. Many reports on a clean channel produce no strike.
How long does a YouTube strike last?
Community Guidelines strikes expire 90 days after they are issued. Copyright strikes also expire after 90 days, provided the channel owner completes Copyright School.
Can I get a video removed if it shows my face or address?
Yes, through YouTube's privacy complaint form. You must be the person identified. The uploader gets 48 hours to remove or edit the video, and then YouTube reviews it against its privacy guidelines.
Does a YouTube ban service guarantee a channel will be banned?
No honest one does. A takedown service can choose the right form and file a strong report, but only YouTube decides, and only when the content breaks a written rule or the law.
What happens if someone files a fake copyright claim?
The uploader can send a counter notification, and the video is restored unless the claimant shows a lawsuit within about 10 US business days. The claimant can be sued for damages under US law and can lose access to YouTube.
