How to report a Telegram group: the in-app steps, the abuse email, and what a report bot cannot do
Telegram has no report form you can fill in from outside. Every group report starts inside the app, from a message or from the group's profile, and then follows a menu that Telegram's own server sends. This page walks through those steps, the addresses that back them up, and what the free report bots and scripts on GitHub really do.
To report a Telegram group, tap and hold a message that breaks the rules, choose Report and pick the reason. To report the whole group, open its profile, tap the menu and choose Report. Then email abuse@telegram.org with the t.me link and the message links.
How to report a Telegram group in the app
How to report a Telegram group depends on what you want moderators to see. A report on a message carries that message to the moderator. A report on the whole group carries only the group and your reason. Telegram's FAQ says all its apps have Report buttons, and both kinds start there.
- Android: tap and hold the message, tap the three-dot menu, choose Report. For the whole group, open the group's name at the top, tap the three dots, then Report.
- iPhone and iPad: press and hold the message, choose Report. For the group, open its profile, tap More (the three dots), then Report.
- Desktop: right-click the message and choose Report. For the group, open its info panel and use the three-dot menu.
- Pick the reason Telegram offers, add a short comment if it asks for one, and send. Select several messages at once if the same member posted them.
So how to report a group in Telegram, and how to report a group on Telegram Web, is the same move on every device: message first, profile second. A telegram report group action from the profile alone is the weakest version. Public groups can be reported from their preview without joining. A private group can only be reported by its members; Telegram's API answers outside reporters with "You haven't joined this channel/supergroup."
The same message-first rule decides reports on WhatsApp, where the forwarded-messages rule behind a WhatsApp report explains what reaches the moderator.
Telegram banned content: what gets a group blocked
Telegram banned content is a short list compared with other platforms. Its Terms of Service forbid using Telegram to send spam or scam users, to promote violence on publicly viewable channels and bots, and to post illegal pornographic content in public. They also forbid activity recognised as illegal in most countries. Banned content on Telegram therefore means public scams, calls to violence, child abuse material, illegal sales and stolen personal data, not rude members or opinions you dislike.
The scale is real. Telegram's moderation page, read on 23 October 2026, counted about 28.3 million groups and channels blocked in 2026, 460,906 of them for child abuse material. It says moderation has combined user reports with machine learning since 2015 and added AI tools in early 2024. A table on the same page shows outside organisations getting content blocked through the takedown addresses: 16,965 items from the top four child-protection NGOs in July to December 2025.
A group that hosts one bad message is a case against that member. A group built around the sale of stolen accounts or leaked data is a case against the group. Telegram banning channels and groups at this rate is driven by content, which is also how the target-by-target guide to Telegram takedown doors sorts its cases.
The Telegram abuse email and the other addresses
The Telegram abuse email is abuse@telegram.org. Telegram's FAQ calls it an automated takedown address, so write for a reader who opens links and checks them fast. A report from the app plus one clear email is the full public route.
- abuse@telegram.org: illegal public content in groups, channels and bots. Give the t.me link, three to five message links and the rule each one breaks.
- dmca@telegram.org: copyright, from the owner or an authorised agent only.
- stopCA@telegram.org: child abuse material, listed on Telegram's moderation page.
- @NoToScam: an account or group pretending to be you or your business.
- telegram.org/dsa-report: for EU users, a notice with your name, contact details and "a clear and convincing explanation", which Telegram must answer.
A short email works best. Subject: "Public group t.me/name selling leaked ID cards". Body: the link, the message links, one line on what each shows, who you are, and what you ask for. Send it once. Telegram's EU terms warn it may stop processing notices from people who keep filing ones that are clearly unfounded.
Telegram gives reporters no ticket and no phone line. That is common: compare what Instagram's customer service can and cannot do for one user. For posts on other apps, the report that gets a single Instagram post removed follows the same one-clear-case pattern.
Telegram report bot GitHub repos: what they really run
Search for a telegram report bot on GitHub, or mass report telegram github, and you find Python scripts with names like report bot, channel ban tool or telegram mass reporting tool. Almost none of them are bots in Telegram's sense. Telegram's documentation for messages.report says "Only users can use this method", so a bot account cannot file reports. Every one of these scripts logs into real user accounts through a session file and presses Report as those users.
That has three consequences. First, each report still goes through the server menu, so a script that hard-codes an old reason breaks when the menu changes. Second, the API refuses an empty message list ("A non-empty list of IDs must be passed") and refuses private groups the account has not joined, so an auto report telegram channel script fires the same thin report many times. Third, the admin-only spam call, channels.reportSpam, fails for anyone who is not an admin of that group.
A telegram mass report bot free of charge usually costs something else: it asks for your phone number and login code, or a session file, which hands your account to whoever runs it. Telegram's spam rules then limit or block the accounts that send floods. What a Telegram report flood really triggers tests that side, and what an Instagram spam report bot on GitHub actually is shows the same pattern on Instagram.
Telegram group ban method and channel ban scripts against reality
Sellers post a telegram group ban method or a telegram channel ban method as if it were a secret. Most are the same three steps: many accounts, one reason, one target. Here is what each label promises and what Telegram's process does with it.
| Label | What it does | What Telegram reviews |
|---|---|---|
| Telegram channel ban tool | Sends one reason from many logged-in accounts | The reported content, not the number of senders |
| Telegram channel ban script | Loops messages.report with stored sessions | The same; the sending accounts risk spam limits |
| Telegram channel report bot | A chat bot that takes your target and runs the script | Nothing new; bots cannot file reports |
| Group ban method | Reports on the profile with no messages | Only the group and the reason, so little to judge |
| Documented report | Message reports plus one linked email | The posts, the rule and the link: what moderators act on |
The pattern repeats on every large platform: how X weighs a wave of reports on one account, what buyers of X report floods tend to get and the TikTok mass report panels and why they stall.
What happens after you report a group on Telegram?
After you report a group on Telegram, nothing comes back to you. There is no case number. The result shows up as removed messages, a group that opens with "can't be displayed because it violated Telegram's Terms of Service", or a SCAM or FAKE label on its profile. The reported members are not told who filed.
If nothing changes after about a week, the moderator found no violation in what was sent. The fix is better evidence: specific message links, screenshots with dates, a clear rule. More reports from more accounts add nothing. If you are an admin, you can act yourself: Telegram's Bot API lets admins ban a member for any period, and a ban of under 30 seconds or over 366 days counts as permanent.
The same holds when the target is a single person rather than the group; why a pile of reports against one Instagram account rarely ends it and whether Instagram tells the person you report cover that side.
How to report telegram groups compared with other apps
How to report telegram groups follows the rule every platform shares: the evidence carries the case. Telegram is stricter than most about private spaces, but the steps match. On Instagram, read the Instagram report bots that burn their own accounts and the four routes that can take an Instagram account down. Facebook runs on Meta's rules in what Facebook does when many people report one Page and the Facebook report tools and the policy behind them.
TikTok is covered by our test of report bots on TikTok videos, LIVE and comments and what really gets a TikTok account banned. YouTube appears in how YouTube handles a flood of flags on one channel, why one well-built YouTube spam report beats a bot and the limits of a YouTube channel takedown. WhatsApp's own bans are set out in the price tiers behind WhatsApp ban listings, and Snapchat's in how Snapchat judges evidence over report counts.

Questions on this matter
- How do I report a Telegram group?
- Tap and hold a message that breaks the rules and choose Report, or open the group's profile, tap the menu and choose Report. Then email abuse@telegram.org with the links.
- Can I report a Telegram group without joining it?
- A public group, yes, from its preview. A private group, no. Telegram only accepts reports on private groups from their members.
- What is the Telegram abuse email?
- abuse@telegram.org for illegal public content, dmca@telegram.org for copyright and stopCA@telegram.org for child abuse material.
- Does the person know I reported the group?
- No. Telegram does not tell group members or admins who filed a report, and it does not send the reporter a case number either.
- Do Telegram report bots from GitHub work?
- They log into real accounts and repeat the same report. Telegram reviews the content, not the count, and the sending accounts risk spam limits or bans.
- How long does Telegram take to act on a group report?
- Telegram publishes no timeline. Clear cases are often handled within days. If nothing changes after a week, send better evidence, not more reports.
