The MassReport blog

Blog: reporting, takedowns and online reputation, explained

Shorter pieces on how platforms handle reports, what changes in the rules mean for people trying to get harmful material removed, and where the popular advice goes wrong.

Topics on the blog

The main pages of this site describe routes; the blog looks at the questions around them. Expect posts on:

  • How report review works on the major platforms, and why report volume is not the deciding factor
  • Changes to platform policies on impersonation, scams, harassment and ban evasion
  • Legal notice routes such as DSA notices, DMCA notices and privacy erasure requests, with what each one asks for
  • Search results and reviews: what Google and review sites will remove, and what they will not
  • Report bots, ban sellers and recovery scams, and how to recognize them before paying

How posts are written

Posts cite primary sources wherever one exists: the platform's own help center or policy page, the text of the law, or the regulator's guidance. Figures come from official transparency reports, with the period they cover, and are never rounded up into claims they do not support. No post promises an outcome, and none explains how to file a false report or run a report flood.

Posts are dated, and a post is revised when the rule it describes changes. Where a platform's wording has moved or a form has been replaced, the post says what changed and when it was checked. Readers with a live matter, as opposed to a general question, will find on the contact page what a case submission should include, and the removals index sorts the routes by area.
